About Healthy Sprouts
Registered Holistic Nutritionist Irene Swedak continues the work of the company's founder in her quest to provide children with nutritious first foods...and parents with convenience.
Healthy Sprouts® Foods Inc. was founded in late 2004 by a Toronto-area mom who wanted to give her babies nutritious, tasty, and fresh organic baby food. Like many parents, she refused to buy jarred and over-processed baby food, and spent countless hours in the kitchen making everything from scratch wondering why after all of these years someone had not come up with a better option. She took the task into her own hands and began to grow “Healthy Sprouts®” Foods Inc.
By May 2006, Healthy Sprouts® was on retail shelves and became Canada’s first frozen organic baby food line available in convenient ‘grab & go’ cups. In 2007, Irene Swedak joined Healthy Sprouts® to share her passion for educating parents on the value of nutritious food. As Director of Nutrition and Product Development, Irene developed a new product line for toddlers consisting of textured meals for children around 1 year of age and older. In mid-2009, Irene assumed control of the company and in her current role as President, continues to work hard to provide healthy meals and snacks for children from the introduction of solids and beyond because... ‘Your little miracle is worth it™’.
Irene graduated with honours from the University of Guelph in 1996, (specializing in biochemistry and nutrition), obtained her honours in holistic nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, and founded Wellness Wizards Nutritional Consulting. She is a registered member of The Canadian Association of Holistic Nutritionists and the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants, and resides in southern Ontario with her family, including two (now teenage) children and baby number three (due in January 2011). As an instructor and professional menu-planner, Irene's most popular workshops for the past several years have been "Baby & Toddler Food Basics" where participants learn about food introduction, food quality, organics, and practical feeding tips. Irene has co-authored the recipe book “Feed Me...I’m Hungry!” and is now working on a new volume entitled “Feed Me...For Life” which is slated for release in late 2010.
